Purpose:
Intel® Server Boards or Intel® Server Systems Intel® VROC NVMe* RAID Intel® VROC SATA RAID (formerly Intel® Rapid Storage Technology Enterprise (Intel® RSTe).
For Windows* Server 2016/2019 OS, could you determine which driver to use during Windows* Server operating system installation?
For Ubuntu 22.04 Linux, there is no need for an extra VROC NVMe or SATA Raid driver
Descriptions:
Legacy hardware RAID products traditionally isolated the storage behind a RAID adapter, controlling RAID arrays as an intermediary between the HD and the host. (As shown on the LEFT side of the image)
Intel® Volume Management Device (Intel® VMD), an integrated controller inside the Xeon Scalable CPU PCIe* root complex.
The NVMe SSDs are directly connected to the CPU, and the full performance potential of reduced latency and increased bandwidth can be realized. (As shown on the RIGHT side of the image)
Intel VROC also supports SATA RAID for SATA devices off the Intel chipset.
Audience
For the engineers with experience on Advantech BMC's platforms with basic knowledge of remote access.
Prerequisite:
1. Hardware: Intel Xeon Scalable CPU with BIOS support Intel VROC
2. Supported Browsers:
• Chrome's latest version.
• IE 11 and above.
• Firefox (with limited support).
Procedure
About the VROC Raid setup, refer to How to build UEFI PCH Firmware (RSTe) or VROC RAID on SKY-7632D/SKY-7232D.
Created the RAID volume (virtual drive) in the pre-boot configuration utility, but still unable to see the RAID volume during Windows OS installation
Resolution
Follow the steps below to load the driver for Intel® RAID controller during Windows* OS install (Intel® VROC used as an example):
- Download the Windows* driver for your Intel® RAID Controller and save it to a USB drive.
- Click Load driver at the Where do you want to install Windows? screen.
-
Click Browse and navigate to the location of the RAID driver downloaded in Step 1 then click OK.
Note The Intel® VROC driver package contains multiple folders.
For Intel® VROC NVMe RAID, choose iaVROC.free.win8.64bit.ver.
For Intel® VROC SATA RAID (formerly Intel® RSTe), choose iaStorE.free.win8.64bit.ver.
-
Click your Intel® RAID controller the click Next to install the driver.
- You should now see the RAID volume detected by the Windows installer. Otherwise, click the Rescan button.
- Check "Device Manager"
