Pre-requirement & reference
To avoid system time differences, a synchronization mechanism among all sources that are available in an ATCA environment is needed. Please refer to FAQ for detail in ATCA RTC sync mechanism.
Purpose
The MIC-5332 is an Advantech ATCA blade that includes RTC synchronization to ensure the blade boots up with synchronized time. This FAQ introduces a potential limitation of the IPMC on the MIC-5332, which may cause the system time synchronization from the IPMC chip to be less reliable than expected.
Because of Errata sheet LPC1768 (Our IPMC Chip) , its RTC is not reliable. Means settings on IPMC based is not reliable either.
Means RTC time sync set to 0x02 is NOT allowed or system time cannot be guarantee.
Target Audience
All users who are using Advantech ATCA MIC-5332
Use Cases
Just avoid using 0x02 set described in ATCA RTC sync mechanism. There's no impact when blade in chassis with ShMC inside.
