Build Microsemi Adaptec Series 8 RAID on SKY-8101

Purpose

This guide took SKY-8101 or SKY-8201 series for example to show how to build RAID on Microsemi Adaptec Series 8 RAID card. 

You could also refer this doc for any other platforms which insert Microsemi Adaptec Series 8 RAID card. 

Prerequisite

Hardware: Advantech SKY-8101

BIOS version : V2.02 or above 

Limitation :

• Watchdog function will be stop after user enter to RAID card setup menu on BIOS version V2.02 or above.
• If the BIOS version is not V2.02 or above, please make sure user can build RAID done in 3 minutes. Watchdog timer is set to 180 sec.

Steps

> Load BIOS default if necessary

• Save & Exit -> Reload BIOS default -> Load Optimized Default? -> Yes

• Save & Exit -> Save Changes and Exit -> Save configuration and reset? -> Yes

• The server will reboot and please press "DEL" or "F2" to enter the BIOS setup menu

> Create RAID on Microsemi Adaptec Series 8 RAID card

• Press CTRL-A after the BIOS flash show up (in about 3 seconds):

• Logical Device Configuration: (press [Enter] key)

• Initialize Drives: (press [Enter] key)

• Select drives for initialization: (press [Space] key)

• Submit it after select drives for initialization: (press [Enter] key)

• Warning message: (press [Y] key)

• Create Array: (press [Enter] key)

• Select drives to create Array: (press [Space] key)

• Submit it after select drives to create Array: (press [Enter] key)

• Select Array Type: (press [Enter] key)

• Create Array Label : (press [Enter] key)

• Move to Done item after all of configurations are done : (press [Enter] key)

• Manage Arrays to check the RAID type : (press [Enter] key)

• List of Arrays to check the RAID type : (press [Enter] key)

• Press [ESC] key to exit

• Move to YES to exit
