How to swap activated/deactivated BIOS?

1. Purpose:

This article instructs on how to swap activated/deactivated BIOS bank.

2. Audience:

Advantech AE, FAE and CIOT TSE.

3. Procedures:

There are three key actions to take:

1. Plug MIC-6330 RIO board.
2. Shut down MIC-6330 payload.
3. Swap BIOS via IOL. (IPMI Over LAN)

MIC-6330 RIO board provides RJ45 LAN port(s) with NC-SI feature to remotely access BMC, and it also supports this way to swap BIOS from activate to deactivate and deactivate to activate. You can run ipmitool utility on another terminal, and do following commands command to shutdown payload and swap BIOS.

An example to shutdown payload and swap BIOS via IOL:

# ipmitool -I lanplus -H 192.168.1.1 -U administrator -P advantech chassis power off

// shutdown payload

# ipmitool -I lanplus -H 192.168.1.1 -U administrator -P advantech raw 0x2e 0x40 0x39 0x28 0x00 0x03 0x00 0x00

// swap BIOS between main and backup unit

# ipmitool -I lanplus -H 192.168.1.1 -U administrator -P advantech raw 0x2e 0x41 0x39 0x28 0x00 0x03 0x00 0x00

// 01 represents BIOS 1(backup) has activated, and BIOS 0(main) has deactivated
