Purpose:
For non-BMC SKUs, an AMI tool is required to upgrade the BIOS firmware.
This article provides a step-by-step guide on how to upgrade the BIOS firmware using the AFU utility.
Audience:
Advantchers and FWA-3034 owners.
Prerequisites:
- BIOS firmware file with 'bin' extension
- AfuEfix64.efi tool
- UEFI shell environment
Steps:
1- Power Off and Enable ME Update: This step is mandatory when upgrading to a major version, such as transitioning from version 1.0 to version 2.0. Otherwise, you can proceed without completing this step.
Turn off the device, position a jumper on CN20 pins 1-2 to activate the Management Engine (ME) update.
2- Insert USB disk into PC and enter BIOS.
3- Set Boot > Boot Option #1 to [UEFI: Built-in EFI Shell], save changes and exit BIOS.
4- Under EFI shell, select filesystem of your USB (enter command “fsX:”)
5- Navigate to the file directory:
FS0:\AFU\> ls
Directory of: FS0:\AFU\

6- Execute the following command to initiate the BIOS update:
FS0:\> AfuEfix64.efi 3034H00IA60V214.BIN /P /B /N /X /ME /MER

System must power-off to have the changes which take effect!

PS: Please note that the red part in above command is related to the ME update and can be skipped if it's not a major firmware upgrade.
7- Monitor Update Progress: observe the update progress as displayed in the log provided below the command.
Ensure that all steps, such as reading flash, erasing blocks, updating blocks, and verifying blocks, are completed successfully.
Note any warning messages or instructions displayed during the update process.
8- Perform an AC Cycle: turn off the device (AC OFF), wait for a few moments, and then turning it on. This step ensures the updated BIOS is activated.
9- Power Off the System
Power off the device and place a jumper on CN20 pins 2-3 to disable the Management Engine (ME) update.
