How to enable PXE boot in BIOS? (General Steps)

Purpose:

Pre-boot Execution Environment (PXE) provides a way to boot our products through network interfaces. In general, PXE boot is not the 1st boot option in BIOS setup menu. This article will show you how to enable all the necessary settings in BIOS to allow system boot from network (PXE).

Prerequisites:

1. Make sure the PXE sever is offering proper boot environment for your DUT
2. Please find product user manual to understand which Ethernet port(s) supports PXE boot functions.

Target Audience:

All users who are using Advantech ICVG products and need to boot the system(s) from your PXE server.

Procedures/Steps:

The PXE boot, also known as Network Boot, should be supported by all BIOS on Advantech x86 products.

Please enable network devices as bootable devices through following steps in BIOS.

1. Find product user manual and connect PXE server to one Ethernet port which supports PXE boot.
2. At console terminal or graphic output, Press F2/Del during boot to enter BIOS setup menu
3. [By Models] Go to Post & Boot > UEFI PXE Support > Enable , this setting can be enabled alone with Network Stack set to disabled.
4. If you cannot find "UEFI PXE Support" in Post & Boot page, please Enable Network Stack in same page.
5. Go to Post & Boot > CSM Parameters
6. Select Network and enable it as "Legacy" or "UEFI".  This option determines what PXE type will be applied after system rebooted. 
7. Go to Save & Exit > Save & Reset
8. Again, press F2/Del during boot to enter BIOS setup menu 
9. Go to Post & Boot > "Network Device BBS Priorities" to change sequence of Network boot devices.  
10. Go to Post & Boot > Boot Option Priorities to set boot devices , you may set network device shown in list as 1st boot device.
11. Once boot device was set, go to Save & Exit > Save & Reset
12. The PXE Rom should be running during system boot and BIOS will search 1st network device to boot.
